Memory loss, irritability, or feelings of sadness are not an inevitable part of growing older. Advances in effective medical and psychiatric treatments may make it possible for seniors to overcome or manage more effectively issues such as depression, anxiety, alcoholism, and signs and symptoms of dementia.
To accommodate patients in need of our help, the Institute for Living at Mainland Medical Center has Senior Mental Health Programs that are Inpatient and Outpatient. To determine if an Inpatient or Outpatient Program may be of benefit, an assessment can be arranged with one of the psychiatrists, Dr. Bondurant, Dr. Loya, or Dr. Emory.
Our Assessment Coordinator is available within one to three days of your phone call to assess your senior family member.
The Outpatient Program is held three days a week from 10am – 3pm.
The Inpatient Program is for seniors whose psychiatric disorder is so severe that 24 hour monitoring and treatment is required. Only a physician can determine the need for inpatient hospitalization.
The Institute for Living also offers a counselor by phone 24 hours a day. A request to speak to a counselor, when a senior is experiencing an emotional crisis, can be made by calling 409-938-5723. For further information, you may call, Tony Purser, Program Director, at 409-938-5174.
